The SICK
Optical Displacement Precision Sensor system contains a distance sensor
and an amplifier. The amplifier has three sensor head connections, which
allows the values obtained from each distance sensor to be displayed on
the LCD of the amplifier. The values are displayed in numerical values
of the distance in millimeters and a waveform that plots the intensity
of the emitted energy to the number of pixels.
We were able to integrate the OD Precision
Sensor with LabVIEW. An array can be made from the wavelength
monitoring, which allows the capability to share data with the network.
Giving anyone in the company the ability to access the data means that
the data can be manipulated in different ways from different locations,
providing convenience. For example, if glass pieces for a picture frame
or a camera were on a conveyor belt and each glass piece must be a
specific thickness, a troubleshooting program already integrated in the
LabView code may be implemented to direct the glass piece with incorrect
thickness to be rejected or redirected to a correction location. The
same code may be implemented for making solar panels or cassettes used
in X-rays for computed radiography, in which the cassettes that house
the imaging plate must be correctly spaced. The distance sensor
integrated with Labview can be used in various applications ranging from
photography to medical devices.
